Happy Halloween From the Sovereign Barony of Nonsuch

Considering we haven't even tried carving a pumpkin into a Jack-O-Lantern in nearly 30 years (an accomplishment in and of itself since we're only 29), we don't think we did to bad of a job.

Happy Halloween from the Sovereign Barony of Nonsuch.

In Memorium of A Great Tragedy

Today marks the ninth anniversary of the Terrorist attacks of 9/11. Nine years ago today, a group of misguided men changed the world forever, and the Sovereign Barony of Nonsuch honors the memory of all who lost their lives that day.

Protect A Book Day

It is my pleasure to announce the first official holiday in the Sovereign Barony of Nonsuch;

"Protect A Book Day"

Whether it's a Qur'an, a Bible, a Torah, or whatever book you feel might be threatened, go to your nearest bookstore or public library and buy or borrow a copy of that book. Keep it safe from those who would destroy it, and better yet, read the book as well.

We must show those who would destroy knowledge (Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, Mao Zedong, Terry Jones, etc., etc.) that the accumulated wisdom in the worlds truly great books is stronger than they are.

Condemnation of Intolerance

It is found by the Sovereign Barony of Nonsuch that the planned burning of copies of the Muslim Holy Qur'an, that the evangelical, fundamentalist Christian church led by the reverend Terry Jones, in Gainesville, Florida to be an act of hate and terror that serves no truly useful purpose.

It is also found that the logic behind the book burning to be flawed on a very key point. Reverend Jones claims that the act is a protest against Islamic Extremists for the events of September 11th, 2001. Very well, but if Christian Extremists bomb a family planning clinic, will they object to pro-choice groups burning bibles in protest for that action? I think not.

If a bully kicks sand in your face, will kicking even more sand in his face make him stop, or simply make him kick even more sand back again?

In other words "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, would leave the whole world blind and toothless".

The Barony's Stance Against Terror

I have just read on the official website for South Park Studios that the infamous episode "201", which was censored into oblivion and altered to the point that Messrs. Matt Stone and Trey Parker felt compelled to remove it from broadcast on Comedy Central, it will, on May 22, 2010 be available on streaming video at the official website.

This episode was pulled because of threats of violence from a radical Islamic terrorist group, Revolution Muslim who objected to a cartoon portrayal of the Prophet Muhammad.

The Sovereign Barony of Nonsuch not only condemns terrorist activities of groups like Revolution Muslim, the barony, and I, it's lord, are deeply disappointed that Comedy Central gave into such threats and therefore gave power to such hateful radicals.

I am reminded of attacks by certain pedantic Christian groups that came out against the Harry Potter book series, claiming it taught children Satanism and witchcraft. I was therefor surprised when I learned a Pentecostal friend of mine was a great fan of the series. When I asked her about her denominations stance on the books her response was;

"I have enough faith in the truth that I have no reason to be afraid of a fantasy."
So, I say to Revolution Muslim, if you truly had faith, why would you care about a cartoon, and I say to you, the Sovereign Barony of Nonsuch does not fear you, so you have no power over it's baron or his people.

You are nothing, and I will not only be watching the streaming episode come May 22nd, but do in fact encourage all who read this to watch it as well.

Wesley,
Baron of Nonsuch
