Official Condemnation of Tactless Remarks

Following the recent, tragic events in Haiti, this last Tuesday, certain parties have taken the opportunity to make many cruel, heartless, and extremely thoughtless remarks regarding the earthquake, as well as the nation and people of Haiti, and while the Sovereign Barony of Nonsuch, and I it's baron, will not dignify or grant more attention to the two worst perpetrators of such vile slander by naming them or otherwise calling them out, the barony does take the following position;

Isn't it wonderful that we live in a world where every person is not only free to display their stupidity, but can also feel comfortable doing so.

For the People of Haiti

As many of you may have already heard, on Tuesday, January 12, 2010, a horrific earthquake, registering 7.0 on the Richter scale, struck the nation of Haiti , and while the total number of casualties has yet to be determined, some officials fear the total will exceed 100,000.

That is why I am asking, encouraging, and imploring anyone who may be reading this to contact your local chapter of the American Red Cross. If you cannot donate money, and I do understand that in these stressful economic times how difficult it may be to find the money to just pay your rent and buy food, ask them if you can donate your time and volunteer to do some useful task to assist them in their work.

For those who cannot afford to donate time or money, I ask you to offer up your prayers. Whatever your religion may be, pray for the people of Haiti, pray for an end to their suffering, and for the people who will be going to that poor, unfortunate country seeking to offer aid and comfort to the suffering . Pray that they find the strength to endure all the heartache they will face in the coming months as the people of Haiti work their way through this great tragedy.

Wesley,
Baron of Nonsuch

Happy New Year for 2010

“The whole life of man is but a point of time; let us enjoy it.”

Plutarch
46 AD – 120 AD

As we look back on the year 2009, with all of the social and political problems, and the worst moments of what some economists, journalist, and politicians have taken to referring as “The Great Recession”, the one thing I believe we should all focus on isn’t the chaotic, the disruptive, the negative or the distressing, but rather everything good that happened in this last year.

The world changed forever on January 20th, 2008, when Mr. Barack Hussein Obama II was sworn in as the 44th president of the United States of America, and while the ultimate success or failure of his administration will be left for history to decide, Mr. Obama has already established a legacy of change. Now, anyone born in the U.S.A. (as Mr. Obama was, despite the attempts by right wing conservatives and conspiracy theorists do to prove otherwise) can indeed grow up to be president.

On a closer and more personal note, 2009 was a year in which the highs finally outnumbered the lows in both my private and public life. No longer beholden to any toxic and self-seeking persons, time was found at last for more artistic pursuits such as my little performances in the Stockton Civic Theatre’s productions of “Annie Get Your Gun” and “The Producers”, I began looking in to forming an investment club for myself and my friends, and was able to take a wonderful excursion to the Mexican Riviera where I met many wonderful people and saw many fantastic sites.

Most especially, however, 2009 saw the founding of the Sovereign Barony of Nonsuch, and while this fiefdom is still in it’s infancy, I look forward to and welcome all of the challenges of being the head of state for this new micronation.

I wish you all a happy new year. Not just for 2010 but for all the years to come.
